Residential Programs

About Our Residential Program

Shifra’s Residential Program is like no other shelter or maternity residence. We provide a safe, nurturing and caring home environment for young, homeless and pregnant women throughout pregnancy, delivery and beyond.

We also provide our residents with the tools they need to succeed beyond their stay at Shifra, including life skills training, financial literacy, wellness programs and more.

What to Expect

PRENATAL CARE / PARENTHOOD PREP

Our residents work with midwives, OBs, doulas, lactation consultants, public health nurses, and family home visitors pre- and post-delivery throughout their entire stay at Shifra Homes.

LIFE SKILLS TRAINING

We teach our residents how to cook, do laundry, clean, nurture and take care of their baby, budget and save, and more during their stay at our Home.

BASIC NEEDS

We buy groceries, schedule dentist appointments, get eyes checked, drive to appointments, connect with Legal Aid, and have volunteers cook meals for our residents.

WELLNESS PROGRAMS

Residents have access to psychotherapists, addictions counsellors, art therapy, and massage therapy as part of our Wellness Programs.

SERVICE COORDINATION MEETINGS

Residents complete Personal Growth Plans with our Program Manager at intake and Service Coordination Meetings are held with involved service providers.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT & WORKSHOPS

We assist our residents with applying for OW or ODSP if they are not working, ensure they have active bank accounts, and teach them budgeting skills while they reside at our Home.
